Who We Are
History / Founding
Although you may not know it, our own congregation; the UUSSS, has been providing a welcoming liberal theology and serving our local community from this building for over 70 years. In 1953, 4 couples decided to start their own Unitarian Fellowship; they met in private homes for a while and then at a vacant bank building in Babylon. On April 7, 1954, they organized formally as a religious corporation. In 1956, the fellowship brought the present building on 28 Brentwood Road, and in 1960, it reorganized as a society with church status in the UU, which required 60+ families. The sanctuary behind the main building was built to accommodate a larger fellowship in 1963, and serves to this day.
